4 Countries advising Temporary Visa Holders What to do

Australia, Germany, Canada and New Zealand are helping young travelers who are stuck in their country during this COVID-19 situation.

In this uncertain COVID-19 time, it can be difficult for Temporary visa holders to understand what to do, when you are stuck in a country you were only meant to stay in during your working holiday year / study abroad year.

Below you will find information about what to do next, when stranded in Germany, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

According to Schengenvisainfo.com, Germany has announced that

Holders of expired Schengen visas who are stuck in Germany since March because of the Coronavirus outbreak and unable to go home still, due to existing travel restrictions and absence of travel means, will be able to continue staying in Germany until September 30

If you are a Working Holiday Visa Holder, Schengen Visa Holder or Student Visa Holder and you currently reside in Germany, you can stay in Germany until September 30th 2020. However, it’s unclear if you are able to stay after September 30th 2020 with a visa which was meant to expire after September.

Australia

Working Holiday Makers in Australia are able to extend their working holiday visa for another year if they meet the following requirements

If you are not able to return to your home country after the expiry date of your working holiday visa, you are able to apply for the COVID-19 Pandemic event visa. You can apply for this visa here

Canada

According to New Zealand Immigration Department young travelers must adhere to the following;

Holders of a work, student, visitor, limited or interim visa with an expiry date of 2 April to 9 July 2020 inclusive who were in New Zealand on 2 April 2020 will have had their visas extended to 25 September 2020.
