Participating countries

Slovenia has made Working Holiday visa agreements with the following 3 participating countries:

If you are a Citizen of Slovenia and are considering a Working Holiday experience in one of the participating countries above, contact the Embassy of the country in question for more information.


With this visa you can

This visa allows you to:

  • Live in Slovenia for up to one year
  • Work while traveling (Max. 6 months per employer)
  • Study for 4 months
  • Re-enter Slovenia when traveling to other countries

Things to note

For Canadians

You must pick up the personal work permit at the Employment office of the Republic of Slovenia (“Zavod za zaposlovanje Republike Slovenije), Dunajska cesta 20, Ljubljana. You will also here receive a copy of your work permit along with their visa, however, in order to legally work in Slovenia you must pick up the original.


Conditions

  • Be aged between 18 – 31 years old (18 – 35 years old for Canadians) at the time of application for a visa
  • Not be accompanied by dependent children
  • Hold a valid passport and an onward travel ticket or sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket
  • Possess sufficient funds for personal support for a stay
  • Meet health and security/character requirements
  • Have not previously taken part of the working holiday scheme in Slovenia

For Australians

  • A “Letter of Australian government support” must be obtained from the Department of Home Affairs. There is no charge for this service.

How to apply

  • Visa fee: $118 for Canadians

For Australians:

  1. Collect the supporting documents (Bank statement proofing sufficient funds, passport, proof of travel and health insurance and proof of flight tickets incl. return ticket)
  2. Apply in person at the Embassy of Slovenia in Canberra or at the Australian Embassy in Berlin
  3. Wait for the response

For Canadians:

  1. Collect the supporting documents (Bank statement proofing sufficient funds, passport, proof of travel and health insurance and proof of flight tickets incl. return ticket) Plus Confirm your intention to travel in the territory of Slovenia with the possibility of obtaining remunerated employment to supplement financial resources (This is done, via the visa application form, which is handed to you at the Slovenian Embassy in Ottawa)
  2. Book a visa application appointment at the Embassy of Slovenia in Ottawa
  3. Apply in person at the Embassy of Slovenia on your visa application appointment time.

For New Zealanders

  1. Collect the supporting documents  (Bank statement proofing sufficient funds, passport, proof of travel and health insurance and proof of flight tickets incl. return ticket)
  2. Travel to Canberra, Australia
  3. Apply in person at the Embassy of Slovenia in Canberra, Australia.

Visa quotas

200 Australians are able to take part of this working holiday visa each year.

100 New Zealanders are able to take part of this working holiday visa each year.
